Tea Time
On April 15, the Newark Museum complements its traditional Japanese art exhibit, “Poetic Pastimes,” with an authentic Japanese tea ceremony lead by tea master Akie Topal. Matcha green tea and traditional sweets will be served. A guided tour of the exhibit, which is on view until May 6, will follow. (973-596-6550; newarkmuseum.org)
Spektor sings
Former Jersey girl Regina Spektor will perform at the Wellmont Theatre on April 10. This marks the artist’s return to the tri-state area after a three-year hiatus. Spektor broke onto New York’s anti-folk scene with 2001’s 11:11. The accomplished pop pianist will release her newest album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, in May. Spektor will perform fan favorites, including “Us” and “No Surprises.” (877-935-5668; wellmonttheatre.com)
Something’s Coming
Checkout the Tony Award-winning 2009 revival of West Side Story presented by the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Directed by David Saint, this production has updated the musical’s libretto to include Spanish dialogue and lyrics. The music for West Side Story was written by Leonard Bernstein, and the score was composed by a young Stephen Sondheim. The musical includes classics like “America” and “Maria.” (973-642-8989; njpac.org)—Dylan Runco
