I recently received an invitation to a friend’s party describing the attire suggestions as ‘Casual Country Chic.’ What does that mean and what should I wear?

Don’t you love it when your friends get creative on their invites—not! You should always let the location and time of day dictate your attire first, and then take direction of what to wear from there. I would suggest for this party a simple and chic look that is classic in styling—think Ralph Lauren or Bottega Veneta. Go with rich neutral colors like camel, chocolate or dusty rose. Try a cropped blazer over a skinny tank, worn with a cuffed khaki walking short (I am in love with a pair by Chloe right now). Finish with Tory Burch flats. Or try a casual collared dress in a woven fabric that has a nice drape. Pair the dress with oversized Hererra glasses and the must-have country chic bag of the moment, the Kate Spade wicker clutch. Show up in either one of these looks and you’ll look more elegant than any casual country girl there.

There are lots of hot new shoe styles out there this season but most of them seem a little impractical. Any suggestions?

Great news! This is one of the most practical fashion seasons yet, because you won’t have to wobble around on skinny stilettos. You’ll be able to make your way around town in a comfortable and fashionable pair of wedges, platforms, peep-toes or flats.

Those are the top four shoe styles of the season; with the platform’s chunky (no longer skinny!) heel leading the pack, you’ll get extra support at the front of your foot, especially if you go with a cork bottom. Wedges are also a great style choice because they’re like walking on air, not to mention helping those who are vertically challenged get four inches closer to the rest of the crowd. Flats are also super versatile and look incredibly stylish when they are treated with cut-outs and embellishments. Lastly, the peep-toe is perfect for the office or charity dinner. They are classy and comfortable and are a fresh take on the pump. So step out in style this season and know that your feet will no longer have to choose fashion over function.
