Why Bernardsville? Bernardsville is family. If I go to the wine store, I see a girl I had playdates with when I was 6 years old. When I go to the grocery store I see the women that my mom played softball with when I was a child; I see my former teachers; swim-team coaches; my family friends; the mayor; the town prosecutor who gave me my first job; the vets that my grandmother had over to our house for years; Heartworks Foundation women who serve the community with their amazing love and support. Bernardsville is not just a safe, beautifully quaint, quiet town not far from New York City, it’s where my heart is.

What are some of your favorite local spots? I have many memories of places around town, but if I had to pick a favorite, it is the train station. I travel a lot and am grateful we have that beautiful old station. I make new friends while waiting for the train. Plus my grandmother, Joan Eckert, worked there for almost 30 years and the place reminds me of her laugh and all the free coffee she’d give away while winking at people.

Tell us about your work. I founded the More Than Me foundation a few years ago to help girls from one of the poorest slums in Liberia, West Africa, get off the street and into school. Running the organization is less of a job and more of a calling. School is not yet free in Liberia and around 50 percent of the kids cannot afford to go. More Than Me pays for their school fees, lunch, supplies, uniform and anything else they need in order to succeed in school. When I am not in Liberia signing up little girls for school, I am speaking at schools all over the country telling young people that they are never too young to make a difference.
