Irrepressible Ippolita

Fun and easy-to-wear bangles in black and ivory resin look best worn in multiples.

We met at a recent Neiman Marcus trunk show. I instantly recognized Ippolita after viewing images of her on ippolita.com and Drooling (with a capital D) over her gorgeous and distinctive jewelry designs.

Ippolita’s priciest pieces are executed in 14K gold, but funky silver and resin styles afford any woman the opportunity to add a stack of chic bangles to her wardrobe. Drawing inspiration from costume pieces found in old-world Italian jewelry shops, her ultra-modern collection of resin jewelry is appointed with edgy cuts and bold geometric shapes.

I managed to sneak this style celebrity away from her fans to get the scoop…

Q. What are your favorite elements in the new collection?

A. My favorite piece is always the last thing I worked on. It’s like a puzzle because I have to resolve stylistic issues as well as technical challenges. I’m most excited about my resin collection. Each season I have a fashion infusion, and this is it. My resin bangles are an unexpected aesthetic and a cool way to update your stack.

Q. What was your objective with the collection?

A. This is the jewelry you’ll reach for everyday—resin bangles and long, layering chains are effortlessly wearable and I think “fun” should be in the same sentence as “fine” jewelry.

Q. What are stylish women really looking for?

A. Wearability is a key factor in jewelry because we all like something we’ll look fabulous in. Most of my designs, especially the long chains, go with everything. So I can enjoy them all day and keep them on for a night at the opera. Since I have a craft background, I make my own alloys—and I like to add rose gold on top of silver alloy. The result is pink silver, and it’s especially wearable and very hot right now.
